ACLS Certificates Issued For This Program Are Accepted by the Alberta Dental Association & College.

The Canadian Heart Association’s ACLS for Dental Professionals program integrates the BLS skills with the advanced knowledge needed to participate in or manage a resuscitation event effectively in your dental practice. The program emphasizes the importance of effective patient monitoring, preventing cardiac arrest, early and continuous, high-quality CPR, and high-performing teams. The course reflects science and education from the 2020 International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

The program’s material and scenarios are based in the dental world, and the course requirements have been adjusted for the dental environment. 

Who Should Attend An ACLS For Dental Professionals Program?

The Canadian Heart Association’s ACLS For Dental Professionals program is designed for Dentists & Healthcare Professionals who work in a Dental Environment. This can include but is not limited to Dentists, Dental Assistants,  Dental Hygienists, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and others who need to apply the ACLS medical knowledge and skills in a dental environment. 

What Will You Learn During The ACLS Program?

You will…

  • Utilize the BLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessments in a dental environment. 
  • Perform high-quality BLS, including emphasizing early chest compressions and integrating early defibrillation in a dental environment. 
  • Recognize and manage patients experiencing a respiratory arrest in a dental environment. 
  • Discuss early recognition and management of Acute Coronary Events and Strokes in a dental environment. 
  • Recognize and manage patients experiencing bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmia in a dental environment. 
  • Recognize and manage patients experiencing a cardiac arrest until you transfer care to EMS.
  • Manage a patient who obtains a return of spontaneous circulation in a dental environment. 
  • Model effective communication as a team member or team leader.
  • Evaluate your team’s resuscitative efforts during a cardiac arrest utilizing a continuous assessment of CPR quality, monitoring the patient’s physiologic response, and delivering real-time feedback to your team
  • Recognize the impact and importance of team dynamics on overall team performance.

 How Will I Be Evaluated? 

During the Canadian Heart Association’s ACLS For Dental Professionals program, you will be given access to an integrated online evaluation system. It is through the use of this system that you will be evaluated. Evaluation happens in real-time with the program. You can access the system using your own smartphone or use one of our loaner iPads. Free wifi will be provided at the course. Through the use of this interactive evaluation system, we can guarantee that you will successfully complete the program and earn your ACLS Provider Certificate. The Canadian Heart Association doesn’t use the MEGA-CODE Evaluation system.

 What Certificates Will I Earn At The End Of The Program?

  • The Canadian Heart Association BLS Provider Certificate, valid for one year.
  • The Canadian Heart Association ACLS for Dental Professionals Provider Certificate, valid for two years.
 

How Long Is The Canadian Heart Association’s ACLS Classroom Program?

  • The ACLS Dental Edition has 4 hour of online learning & 4 hours of classroom learning. It can be delivered in one day.

Are There Any Course Prerequisites?

There are zero prerequisites for this program. The BLS is included with the course. No pretest is required.
