Who Should Attend An ACLS Classroom-Based Renewal | Recertification Program?

The Canadian Heart Association’s ACLS program is designed for healthcare professionals who participate in, or manage resuscitation events. This can include but is not limited to personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, dentists, paramedics, and others who need an ACLS course completion card.

Before enrolling in the ACLS Renewal | Recertification Program, you should have a solid understanding of the core ACLS algorithms (Cardiac Arrest, Post Arrest, Bradycardia, & Tachycardia). 

What Will You Learn During The ACLS Program?

You will…

  • Utilize the BLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessments. 
  • Perform high-quality BLS, emphasizing early chest compressions and integrating early defibrillation.
  • Recognize and manage patients experiencing a respiratory arrest
  • Discuss early recognition and management of Acute Coronary Events and Strokes.
  • Recognize and manage patients experiencing bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias.
  • Recognize and manage patients experiencing a cardiac arrest until termination of resuscitation efforts or transfer of care.
  • Manage a patient who obtains a return of spontaneous circulation.
  • Model effective communication as a team member or team leader.
  • Evaluate your team’s resuscitative efforts during a cardiac arrest utilizing a continuous assessment of CPR quality, monitoring the patient’s physiologic response, and delivering real-time feedback to your team
  • Recognize the impact and importance of team dynamics on overall team performance.
  • Discuss how the use of a rapid response team or medical emergency team may improve patient outcomes.

 How Will I Be Evaluated? 

During the Canadian Heart Association’s ACLS Renewal | Recertification Program, you will be given access to an integrated online evaluation system. It is through the use of this system that you will be evaluated. Evaluation happens in real-time within the program. You can access the system using your own smartphone or use one of our loaner iPads. Free wifi will be provided at the course. Through the use of this interactive evaluation system, we can guarantee that you will successfully complete the program and earn your ACLS Provider Certificate. The Canadian Heart Association doesn’t use the MEGA-CODE Evaluation system.

 What Certificates Will I Earn At The End Of The Program?

  • The Canadian Heart Association BLS Provider Certificate, valid for one year.
  • The Canadian Heart Association ACLS Provider Certificate, valid for two years.
 
How Long Is The Canadian Heart Association’s ACLS Renewal | Recertification Classroom Program?
 
  • The ACLS Renewal | Recertification Program is 4 to 8 hours long.

Are There Any Course Prerequisites?

  • You should have a solid understanding of the core ACLS algorithms (Cardiac Arrest, Post Arrest, Bradycardia, & Tachycardia)
  • The BLS is included with the course. No pretest is required.
